Abstract

Inhibition effect of sodium carbonate on low carbon steel immersed in seawater was investigated using electrochemical method of corrosion measurement. Steel samples were immersed in seawater containing 0.01M and 0.1M sodium carbonate inhibitor. Potentiodynamic polarization parameters obtained gave inhibitor efficiency as 50% and 94% at 0.01M and 0.1M respectively. Thus sodium carbonate is an effective corrosion inhibitor of low carbon steel in this environment.
