Abstract

The increasing frequency and intensity of natural and man-made disasters have highlighted the critical need for effective disaster prevention and mitigation strategies. Historically, disaster management has focused primarily on emergency response and recovery, but over time, there has been a significant shift toward preparedness and proactive measures aimed at reducing the impact of disasters. This article reviews the evolution of disaster prevention and mitigation practices, examining key strategies, challenges, and advancements in the field. It explores how these approaches have evolved from reactive measures to more integrated, holistic approaches that emphasize resilience building and long-term sustainability. Key areas of focus include early warning systems, community-based disaster risk management, climate change adaptation, and the integration of technology in disaster prevention. The article concludes by discussing emerging trends and the future of disaster management in the context of global challenges.
