Abstract

Human-centered design (HCD) is a design philosophy that places the needs, experiences, and behaviors of people at the forefront of the design process. In the context of architecture and the built environment, this approach emphasizes creating spaces that prioritize users’ well-being, functionality, and emotional experiences. This review article explores how human-centered design and user experience (UX) principles are being integrated into the built environment, highlighting their impact on architecture, urban planning, and design practices. It delves into key strategies such as empathy, inclusivity, and accessibility, showcasing how these principles shape environments that improve both physical and emotional experiences for occupants. Additionally, the article examines challenges in implementing human-centered approaches and the growing importance of integrating UX thinking in the design of public and private spaces.
