Abstract

Financial performance analysis is a vital tool for assessing the operational efficiency, liquidity, profitability, and     long-term financial sustainability of banking institutions. Cooperative banks play a significant role in promoting financial inclusion by providing banking services to individuals, small businesses, farmers, and self-employed professionals. The present study evaluates the financial performance of The Masulipatnam Co-operative Urban Bank Ltd. using comparative balance sheet analysis and common-size balance sheet analysis. The research is based on secondary data collected from the audited annual reports of the bank covering the financial years 2022–2023 to 2024–2025.

The study examines year-to-year changes in assets, liabilities, reserves, deposits, investments, loans and advances, and profitability. Comparative analysis is employed to identify financial growth and structural changes, while common-size analysis evaluates the relative contribution of each balance sheet component to total assets and liabilities. The findings indicate that the bank maintained satisfactory liquidity, strengthened its reserve position, and sustained stable profitability despite moderate fluctuations in deposits and total assets. Investments continued to constitute the largest share of total assets, reflecting a conservative investment strategy, whereas loans and advances remained the principal earning assets. The increase in statutory reserves indicates prudent financial management and enhanced financial stability.

The study concludes that The Masulipatnam Co-operative Urban Bank Ltd. has maintained a sound financial position through effective liquidity management, balanced investment policies, and controlled lending practices. The paper recommends strengthening deposit mobilization, improving digital banking services, diversifying investment opportunities, and adopting advanced risk management practices to ensure sustainable growth and enhanced customer confidence.
